Traditionally linen was the fibre of choice to weave towels on the looms due to being more long lasting, absorbent and breathable. When the industry came along the machines were too fast to cope with linen threads so the fibre of choice then switched to cotton. Even on a loom, it is necessary to slow down, when weaving linen, in comparison to cotton in fact Linen towels take considerably more time to make than those made of cotton.
